Scotty's Landing - Coconut Grove - Nov 8, 2009
This ride was originally scheduled for May but got rained out. We instead rode down I-95 on probably one of the windiest days we've seen in South Florida in a long time. We met at the Tr-Rail station on Sheridan Street around 10am. We had 13 bikes including 1 guest. There seemed to be a little more traffic than we had planned on, I guess the snowbirds were in town. There were only a couple of hairy parts on the way down, mostly traffic trying to cross lanes in the middle of the group. As soon as we got off of I-95 we took a quick break to let everyone collect their nerves for the rest of the ride. Roads covered by a canopy of trees were prevelent through Coconut Grove. Traffic was light and it was a pleasant ride. The Road Captain (Gadget on todays ride) only got lost once when he thought he knew better than the GPS and missed the Biltmore Hotel. South down 57th where it intersects Old Cutler Road, then North to Coconut Grove proper and Scotty' Landing. Scotty's Landing sits right on the water next to the Chart House behind a huge boat yard just north of the Miami City Hall building. Diane called Jon's sister Lynn, who lives in the area, and she stopped by to visit for lunch. The food was good, prices reasonable and the entertainment enjoyable. The entertainment was a couple of kayakers trying to fight the wind. A good time was had by all and some made it home in time for the second half f the Dolphins game.
